Court dismisses injunction on Oba of Benin coronation

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, Edo State, has refused to grant an injunction seeking to stop the coronation of Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa as the new Oba of Benin.
Prince Erediauwa will be installed the new Oba of Benin on October 20.
Justice Olukayode Baba said his judgment would decide the case in the substantive appeal.
The injunction was brought by one Rich Arisco-Osemwingie who proclaimed himself the Ogiamien of Utantan Kingdom in the Benin nation.
Counsel to Arisco-Osemwengie and others, G.E. Oaikhena told the court that his quest to stop the installation of the new Oba was based on grounds that the re-enactment of the Ekiagbado Treaty which they claimed the Ogiemien family should be part of was not included in the programme of event for the Oba installation.
