Chief John Oyegun, the chairman of the
All Progressives Congress, has said he would not immediately react to
the allegations leveled against him by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
– Oyegun said he would likely make his position known after the Edo state
election on Wednesday, September 28 – The chairman of the All Progressives
Congress said at the moment he would rather focus on
the Edo gubernatorial election
The former governor of Lagos State came down hard on Oyegun in a communiqué from his .media office on Sunday, September 25, accusing the party chairman of betrayal and fraud.
Oyegun played down Tinubu’s statement in a brief exchange with reporters in Benin, the Edo state, saying he would rather focus on the gubernatorial election that is underway across the state. “We don’t want to lose focus and I know Asiwaju also wants us to win because we all have worked hard for this. But may be after Edo elections, after we must have emerged victorious, we may speak on some of the issues raised.
All
I can say now is that most of the things said in the papers about me are not
true. I have always believed in internal democracy, that the credibility of
primaries must be taken seriously,” he said. Oyegun said considering the
position of Tinubu in the APC, he would have to make wider consultation before
issuing a response even after the election in Edo.
Asiwaju
is a well-respected leader of our party so, I cannot be seen speaking evil
against him. I have to consult properly with other leaders of the party before
we make any definite statement,” he said.
In a related development, Alhaji Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a renowned politician and human right activist, on Monday, September 26, said that the feud between Tinubu, and the party’s national chairman was long overdue. According to him, the misunderstanding did not come as a surprise to keen political observers, as people like him had anticipated the crisis soon after the formation of the present government.
