The Nigerian Army said yesterday
that troops on ‘Operation Layifa Dole’ arrested four fleeing Boko Haram members
caught planting bombs on a military supply route. Army spokesman,
Colonel Sani Usman, said in a statement that the arrest was made possible following information provided by a detained suspected Boko Haram militant, LawanAbbai. Usman said the troops carried out Mine and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) clearance at Gombori, which was along the troops main supply route. He also said the troops located and recovered two heavy IEDs buried in the ground by suspected remnants of Boko Haram insurgents. Usman added that in the process of recovering the IEDs, the troops intercepted four fleeing suspected Boko Haram insurgents who said they were on their way to surrender. On preliminary investigation, they were identified as confirmed Boko Haram members by their arrested colleague, Abbai. He also said troops rescued five women and a baby from Boko Haram insurgents in the same general area.
